Melbourne International Animation Festival 2011
So I just got back from a special ACMI member’s preview screening of the Melbourne International Animation Festival and I was blown away - the very very minute selection of this year’s 300+ films was enough to get me very excited indeed.
Here are the animations I saw tonight:
White Hair by Yuka Takeda
Gallery by Robert Proch
Laszlo by Nicolas Lemee
D’Une Rare Crudite by E Davaud, J Mougel, M Szymczak
Mobile by Verena Fels
The Flying House by Bill Plympton, Windsor McCay
Love and Theft by Andreas Hykade
Gerald McBoing Boing by Robert Cannon
Loom by Llija Brunck, Jan Bitzer, Csaba Letay
What surprised me the most about watching this selection of old and contemporary animation is just how utterly amazing some of the old shorts hold up today - not to mention how hilarious they are.
I particularly loved The Flying House with it’s out there story but deadpan dialogue all animated traditionally and Mobile because it was just so easy to laugh along with it.
The Melbourne International Animation Festival runs from June the 19th to 26th.
